July 21, 2016. Compassionate conservation for Yellowstone’s wolves. This is a very important peer-reviewed article stating that federal and state decision makers should adopt “compassionate conservation” for Yellowstone wolves as a matter of equitable public policy and to improve biological and societal outcomes. Humane considerations should be paramount, given the high value and level of public interest in park wolves. Out of fairness to the American public and its park wolves, policymakers should end wolf “harvests” near national parks.

July 12, 2016. How Republicans celebrate the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary. I never thought I could see a group of people de-evolve with their thoughts and actions but these people are proof that they can – how shameful. Yet I’m sure these hypocritical (mostly) western Republicans will still want the tax-money that funds their almost exclusively welfare states meaning that almost all of these states get (way) more money back from the government than what they put in.

April 30, 2016. Beware Wyoming’s hostility to grizzlies, by Todd Wilkinson. This is a great article on the backward mindedness of politicians out west. The last paragraph is fantastic, “Governors in most states would proudly tell the world their province is special because it has bears like 399 inside its borders, recognizing them as rare and powerful assets. Why Wyoming Gov. Mead can’t do that reveals a lot about who he is.”
April 29, 2016. Hunting wolves near Denali and Yellowstone National Parks greatly reduces sightings. While this is hardly surprising, it is nice to have data to provide to wildlife managers that key, observable individuals can be vitally important to tourism even if populations aren’t dramatically reduced in an area. Link to the actual scientific paper/study is embedded at the bottom of the article. Update: April 30: Here is another good article on the topic.
April 29, 2016. In very sad news, famous Yellowstone Grizzly ‘Scarface’ (#211M) killed outside of Yellowstone. I had seen this bear many times and was always astonished how much of the park he used. The Buffalo Trap – Here is very disturbing video of how Yellowstone National Park – the world’s first national park – uses our tax dollars to ship bison to slaughter all for population control reasons – because the state of Montana essentially won’t allow them to roam outside the park. There is also a link on the left hand side of the page to a wolf-bison interaction. Fascinating!

Great quote from article: “The park service doesn’t want the public to see these shameful activities.”
